OUR IMPACT

FIPS-Africa’s Approach has been designed to have an impact upon the lives of farmers at scale.

How we impact upon the lives of farmers at scale:

Each self-employed Village-based Advisor (VBA) has a target of advising between 200 and 500 farming households. 15-20 VBAs are supervised by a District Coordinator. One Regional Coordinator can supervise the activities of up to 6 District Coordinators. A team of 7 Field workers can therefore reach up to 60,000 farming households over a period of 3 years (see figure below).

Through the adoption of improved early-maturing, and disease-tolerant varieties, and improved soil/crop management, farmers are increasing their crop yields in all areas where we work.

An independent impact assessment has shown that our Approach can take all farmers in a village from food deficit to surplus within two years (KIT, 2012).

FIPS-Africa is having an impact at several levels:

    • Small-holder farmers
    • Village-based Advisors
    • Companies
