FIPS Africa’s Approach has been designed to have an impact on the lives of smallholder farmers at scale.
How we impact the lives of farmers at scale:
Each self-employed Village-based Advisor (VBA) has a target of advising between 200 and 500 farming families. 15-20 VBAs are supervised by a Network Coordinator. One Multi-Network Coordinator can supervise the activities of up to 4 Network Coordinators. A team of 7 Field workers can therefore reach up to 60,000 farming households over a period of 3 years.
Through the adoption of improved early-maturing, and disease-tolerant varieties, and improved soil/crop management, farmers are increasing their crop yields in all areas where we work.
An independent impact assessment has shown that our approach can take all farmers in a village from food deficit to surplus within two years (KIT, 2012).
