  • Proven last-mile channel through village-based advisors (VBAs):FIPS Africa’s VBAs are trusted, self-employed community agents who link Artificial Insemination service providers directly to thousands of farmers. This shortens the path from knowledge to purchase and drives the adoption of improved crosses and increases household incomes through higher milk production. VBAs train farmers about feeding, housing, mineral supplementation, and calving management to support conception and calf survival. This improves conception rates and productivity.
  • Field-tested dairy model:FIPS Africa has adapted the VBA model specifically for dairy, showing how local capacity, demonstrations, and farmer learning increase AI uptake.
  • Policy and public-sector engagement: FIPS Africa partners with county livestock departments to certify and equip AI technicians, coordinate service networks, and align local breeding policy with farmer needs.   • Joint design and targeting: FIPS Africa co-designs pilots with breeders and matches animal genetics to local agroecological zones and smallholder management systems. This helps identify crossbreeds, such as Friesian or Ayrshire crosses, that deliver the best returns for farmers.
  • Capacity building for service delivery: FIPS Africa trains and links AI technicians with VBAs to ensure technicians are competent, reachable, and trusted. Our on-the-ground training covers heat detection, cow preparation, semen handling, record-keeping, and farmer communication.
  • Market linkages and last-mile coordination: FIPS Africa links AI technicians with local agro-dealers and service providers so farmers who want to scale have reliable, affordable access to semen, vaccines, feed, and mineral supplementation.
  • Data, monitoring, and continuous improvement:FIPS Africa collects field data on conception, milk yield, calf survival, and incomes to refine breeding, training, and service design, driving continuous improvement and commercial scale-up. FIPS Africa is building a network of passionate partners transforming dairy systems, one insemination at a time.
