FIPS supports governments to co-design practical programmes, build resilient extension systems, generate local evidence, and deliver technologies directly to farmers. These partnerships anchor innovation in county and national strategies, improving food security, income growth, and climate resilience

How we work with governments and their agencies

With decades of field-based knowledge of farmer realities, FIPS is a trusted partner in developing farmer-friendly policies, strategies, and extension models that work.

 

We work side-by-side with 11 Kenyan County governments and National government departments responsible for agriculture, livestock, cooperatives, youth affairs, social protection and micro, small & medium-sized enterprise development. These partnerships design and deliver practical solutions that put smallholder farmers at the centre of agricultural transformation and ensure that innovations reach farmers where they live and work.

 

Examples of FIPS co-investing with government partners:

  • Co-creating research and evidence: We collaborated with extension departments to design and deliver a research programme testing field-level efficacy of the soil method for tackling fall armyworm.
  • Soil health mapping: In partnership with county governments and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO), we developed soil health databases and pH maps for Busia, Kakamega, and Bungoma.
  • Sharing knowledge: FIPS delivers training and capacity development to strengthen agricultural extension systems sharing research insights, introducing new technologies, and expanding last-mile delivery. This includes training on FIPS’ accredited training curriculum.
  • Enhancing the enabling environment: Developed county dairy strategies across six counties, reaching 10,000+ cattle farmers. Supported potato regulation and other policy frameworks that improve access to quality inputs.
